At Miles of Smiles, we use the Fixed Pendulum Appliance (FPA) to gently move your molars into their proper positions. This helps to correct the side bite of the teeth and creates space for the permanent teeth to erupt naturally and without any difficulties. To schedule an appointment with one of our orthodontists, Dr. Tal Jergensen or Dr. Scott Hope, and to learn more about the Fixed Pendulum Appliance in Temecula and Hemet, California, contact our office today.

The FPA is a non-removable oral appliance. It consists of bands around the upper permanent first molars, stainless steel wires that sit in the grooves of the metal teeth, a plastic frame that sits on the root of the mouth, springs that attach to the bands and a bonding resin that helps anchor the appliance in the mouth. Once placed in the mouth, the FPA works to move and reposition the back molars, similar to orthodontic headgear. This corrects crowding and flaring of the front teeth, helps permanent teeth erupt normally and improves the bite.

If you receive a Pendulum Appliance, you may experience some discomfort and tongue obstruction for the first few days. This will dissipate as your mouth adjusts to the appliance. You will also meet with an orthodontist regularly while wearing the appliance to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.

When you receive a Pendulum Appliance, our team will also provide you with instructions on the best ways to brush, floss and keep the appliance and your mouth clean during treatment. Please follow these instructions as closely as possible, as they will help minimize your risk of developing cavities or another dental problems.
